Fresh off of the heels of #TrulyYours1, North Carolina’s own J. Cole dropped #TrulyYours2 this past Wednesday night. During the previous week Cole had dropped the single “Cole Summer” which led listeners to wonder if they should expect that track on the upcoming album #BornSinner, dropping June 25th. However, Cole came back to let fans know via twitter that he would be letting go a 2nd EP prior to the album drop, and he followed up with this promise.
Quite honestly, I didn’t give Truly Yours 1 as much listening time as I should have so it’s hard for me to really give it a fair shake when i compare it to Truly Yours 2…..but I’m gonna do it anyways. Personally, I think TY2 blows TY1 away. The tracks put together on this new EP are so damn good.
The lyrical wordplay skill that Cole has is arguably the best in the game. Arguably. For anyone that was under the impression that Cole had fallen off, or for the listener who perhaps didn’t think that, but instead thought that he had cooled off for a while: The wait is over. Where are the naysayers now? Cole is back (not that he left), with a vengeance.
This is an EP for the fans. the DreamVillians. Songs you won’t see on the album, but songs that can still be appreciated.
I don’t even want to try and explain some of the lyrical wordplay in some of the songs because you should honestly listen for yourself. And in untypical Cole fashion, there are 2 high profile features in Young Jeezy in “Kenny Lofton” and 2 Chainz in “Chris Tucker”. Don’t sleep on “Head Bussa” either, i can’t stop playing it. The only negative about this EP was simply the fact that it was only 6 songs. June 25th can’t come quickly enough.
