Logic – Young Sinatra: Undeniable

Logic

Up and coming rapper Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, better known by his stage name, Logic dropped this mixtape almost 1 year ago exactly. I’ve only just now gotten around to hearing about it because Logic recently made the 2013 XXL Freshman Class, which prompted me to check out some of his material. I have to say, the first 7 songs blew me away. This kid goes IN. His wordplay reminds me of a combination of J. Cole and XV, very witty. Not only that, but he does service to some classic beats like Jay’s “Dead Presidents II” Big Pun’s “Twinz” and Biggy’s “Juicy”. After those first 7, the tape tends to slow down a bit throughout the middle section although the lyrics are still on point. Towards the end of the tape the beats pick back up and Logic finishes strong. The last song “Worldwide” added special meaning to the tape because fan’s messages to Logic are played throughout the song saying where they’re from and praising Logic for his hard work and dedication to making it. A particular song I preferred was “Disgusting” where you can see tones of an Eminem type personality in the sense of a psychopath coming out for Logic. One example of his creative wordplay, “The other night I murdered Captain Crunch, right in front of Toucan Sam and the whole damn bunch that’s Life, what can i say I’m a serial/cereal killer”.

Overall, we feel this tape deserved a 7.5 out of 10.

Logic’s wordplay is his definite strong suit, and if he can combine that with some more mainstream type beats, this kid will be going to the top.
